Our Approach to Psychology

Your first appointment provides an opportunity to talk about what’s happening, what’s brought you to psychology and what you’d like to change or understand.
Together, you’ll explore patterns in your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and experiences that may be contributing to the difficulties you’re experiencing.
Psychological therapy is about developing skills you can use in everyday life. not simply talking about problems.
The goal isn’t for you to depend on your psychologist forever. It’s about developing greater understanding, confidence and skills to manage challenges yourself.
Your treatment is guided by what matters to you and what you want your life to look like.
Where appropriate, Brigitte can work alongside your GP and other healthcare professionals involved in your care, with your consent.

Yes. Psychology can be a valuable part of managing persistent or chronic pain. Living with ongoing pain can affect mood, sleep, confidence, activity, relationships and quality of life. Psychological therapy can help people understand the relationship between pain, thoughts, emotions and behaviours and develop strategies to manage the impact of pain on everyday life.
Psychological treatment does not mean that pain is “all in your head”. Chronic pain is real, and psychological support can be one part of a broader multidisciplinary approach to managing persistent pain.
